cold holiday leftovers

Happy Belated Thanksgiving! I meant to post something last week so that I could be all lazy and link to an older, well-worn post of mine. Alas, it never quite happened.

November has been a chaotic month, both in good ways and in bad. My company was hit hard with layoffs. Fortunately for me, I survived (fingers crossed, knock wood, turn three times and spit on the ground) but several of my colleagues weren't quite so lucky. The people who were let go were well-liked and respected so it's been a sad few weeks at the office. I'm grateful to still be employed but it was of little comfort when I saw my work friends crying and packing up their stuff. Not fun. Here's hoping you all have been spared the swinging ax.

On a much lighter note, I'm still plugging away at Weight Watchers (hardy har har). My weight loss is just shy of 7 pounds, which is pretty damn cool. Actually, my scale says I'm closer to 10 but I need to go by the less generous WW contraption. Bastards.

This was my first major holiday where I really had to mind my portions and wine intake and I'm pleased to report that I stayed within my allotted points for the week. I showed remarkable restraint and willpower in the face of starchy foods, pie, cookies, pumpkin bread, wine, beer, etc. I drank a lot of water, a couple of glasses of white wine and filled up on veggies. I'm not sure I'll lose any weight this week but I don't think I've gained. Yee haw.

Lastly, I'm thrilled to report that I'm working on an honest-to-goodness script. It's too early to share the details and well, I'm writing it under my real name so, um, come to think of it... I might not be able to publicize it here too much. We'll see. Anyhoo, a dear friend of mine, Mike, asked me to take a crack at writing a script for his upcoming project and I agreed. It's been a fantastic experience so far -- creative, supportive and just fun. I'm honored to be a part of it.

So, between work jitters, brutal freelancing deadlines and the script, I'm keeping myself busy. My poor Ham & Cheese on Wry is really feeling the brunt of it. I just don't have the heart to shut it down. I thank you all for faithfully checking in. Once my schedule lightens up (or I win the lottery), I'm hoping to have more time here. Thanks for your patience.
